Regression Therapy

A 'therapy' need not always be about curing an ailment or disorder. Regression Therapy is one of those therapies that is a potent therapeutic modality and is also an amazing life supercharger. As I recount journey with my clients, you get to see what is possible and how it could apply to you. Read on..

A Little Introduction

Before we get to explaining Regression Therapy, we should understand why was it invented in the first place. Let's take an example. Almost all of us are well aware of keeping our hands away from fire. Yet, I think almost no one remembers the first time they got burned. You see, the brain is always trying to optimise its functioning. So, it keeps the 'lesson' from an event and discards the 'story'.  These lessons become our underlying operating system - the way we behave. Throughout our lives, we keep learning, every moment of our lives. All those events are being consistently sorted, cleaned out and reframed based on earlier lessons by our brains.

Likewise, there are a ton events that shape us the way we behave and react or respond to situations. We do not necessarily remember why we do it but we do in a 'certain way'. From trivial activities like which side you sleep on the bed to more important life decisions like choosing your life partner, there is a set of 'lessons' learned from past events that is governing it all.

What if we could re-discover those 'specific memories' and modify them to suit our present life better? May be you developed a fear of public speaking from your kindergarten days when another kid laughed at your poetry recital and all you remember is to not speak out in public. It could be any other event later in life, and every event that further enforced that belief. What if we could find the origin of that behviour and modify that lesson using your present day experience and wisdom?

What if you could access the instances of your confident and joyful times and really solidify those lessons to make you even more capable in the present?

Guess what? We can do that!  Enter the Regression Therapy.

Regression means to return to an earlier state. In the scope of Regression Therapy, we intend to revisit the earlier times in our memories and understand how certain events have been imprinted upon us and how they direct our behaviour.  A skilful therapist carefully guides the person to the appropriate memories and then helps the subject alter the lessons to achieve best outcomes in the present and future.

Certain key points must be understood:-

  • Only accessing old memories usually serve no purpose and in (especially traumatic cases) may even be detrimental to the wellbeing.

  • The lessons need to be correctly re-coded in the mind to gain any benefit to the present and future life.

  • The therapist must only guide the person to appropriate memories and carefully and skilfully keep the person from going off on tangents.

  •  The therapist has to be highly careful to not plant his/her own ideas, even accidentally. A very high level of self awareness is demanded from the therapist to conduct a Regression Session safely and effectively.

It is very much similar to a surgery performed to fix, lets say, a broken bone. The surgeon needs to be highly skilled to cut open at the right place and only the right amount, identify the issue, fix it and close it. Subsequently, s/he also guides the patient through the recovery process.

It is extremely important for the therapist to be completely unbiased and very careful to not let own ideas and thoughts into the subject.

Age Regression - The Key to Your Life Patterns

It is obvious to us that we make our decisions based on our life experiences. Every moment of our life we experience something, we make deductions and use that to make further decisions in similar situations. Brain, at its very core, can be thought as a prediction engine, a thought I heard from a neuroscientist. It is constantly trying to predict what is going to happen next and keep you ready it thinks is most likely scenario. How many times have you completed the other person's sentence or didn't let them finish because you 'knew' what they were going to say? Prediction engine at work!

Depending on how you have seen the life, your way of predictions may be colored one way or the other.. or the other.. or in any colour from the spectrum. How does it serve you? Has it been an issue? Some people have developed a fear of elevators only because they saw a movie that depicted bad things happening in an elevator, which they don't even remember! So many times, the parents scare the child of the 'boogeyman in the streets or wherever'  to do their bidding. Most kids grow out of that.  Still for some, it may still remain in the subconscious part of the brain in  the form of an irrational fear of something. They wouldn't know why they are afraid of the thing, they just are! I am sure you have heard of such instances.

Here is a non exhaustive list of sub-liminal belief systems that could be formed, especially in the young age and often limit a persons progress:-

  • Money is bad/ makes you bad/ cannot buy happiness..

  • One can not succeed without a ton of luck/ unlawful activities.

  • I am stupid/ unlovable/ will never amount to anything.

  • People from ___________ are bad/ good.

  • I can never learn to ____________.

  • _______ color is bad luck for me (and is my company's brand color.. eeeks!!)

  • .. and off you go..

Almost each one of them began with one incident, innocent enough in itself, but it took root into your subconscious. The brain continued to re-enforce that belief anytime anything remotely similar happened.

Using the Regression Therapy, your mind is guided to see the instances for what they truly are and the therapist helps you overcome the limiting beliefs.

Almost all forms of psychotherapies use regression in some form or the other, however they usually stop there and let you 'process' it. This is where hypnotherapy picks up the speed and actively re-codes the mind to remove the shackles of those memories. Thus what takes years of psychotherapy, could be handled in just a few sessions of hypnotherapy. Many times, the change occurs in just one session!

Enhancing Life through Regression

Regression doesn't need to be all about negative life experiences. You can and must revisit those charming beautiful moments of life and be able to relive those feelings again - at will. I have my clients regularly relive their five year old self. The pure joy on their faces when they feel themselves again in that mental state is priceless. Playing with their dolls, on merry-go-round, painting with hands, in kindergarten. They feel it in their bones and is always a high point of the session. To truly experience the state of pure joy, no worries at all. Becoming the five year old self again, with all the awareness of current day. And then you bring all that to present.

Revisiting the events that brought you joy, filled you with confidence, charm, good luck, feeling of invincibility that you haven't thought of in a long time can fill you up with a new vigour and confidence to take on life's challenges. What in the world could keep you from reliving those moments again??

It is extremely important for the therapist to be completely unbiased and very careful to not let own ideas and thoughts into the subject.

Regression to Past Lives??

So, should you believe past lives exist? or can you access them? Irrespective of the answer I or anyone else gives you, you are not going to change your view about it, aren't you? So I won't even bother giving you that one. Because, unless you experience it yourself, with a good therapist, no answers will suffice. Someone can explain in whatever details about how love feels or.. how sweet is an exotic fruit, you may or may not believe that explanation. Even if you do, you cannot enjoy the complete experience until you taste it yourself. Until then it is just a belief. This way or that.

Why then, this page? What purpose does it solve?

Well, in a way I am trying to explain how sweet is the fruit. May be, just may be, someone out there will be curious to taste it and decide for oneself how true it is. All I can do in this one way conversation, to bring out a few anecdotes. They are all true, spoken by a fellow human to me. There is one odd from me too, I am just not telling which one. You will see, not all of them believe it to be 100% Past Life Event. Subsequently, I will discuss what could they mean, obviously, my take.

A trip to past lives..

All anecdotes are highly condensed summaries to just give you the gist. No names. However, if you are interested in checking the authenticity of these stories, write to me. If the person involved here permits, I will put you in touch with them.

1.  I am a little child, may be 7 years old. We are very poor. I am growing up undernourished taking care of my sister after my mother passed away. I make a living by begging and have to be extra nice to people. I love my sister. It appears I am somewhere in ****** in 1600s.

Notes:- This person, lives well over 1000 miles from the place s/he saw to be. Never been to the place in the current life, knows nothing about it. After the session, she googles the details and finds uncanny similarity in the building structures and clothings of the area at the time with what she saw during regression.

2. I am the second prince of a small kingdom in Medieval Europe. My elder brother, the crown prince chased me and killed me as I wasn't ready to marry as per family's wishes.

Notes:- This person, originally from India has not so good relationship with her brother and few others in this life. This trip enabled to look at own thought patterns and start on a new journey to better life.

3. I am very well to do, perhaps a royalty in western India. I live in a castle up on a hill. There is a war about to begin and I am getting villagers out of the way.

Notes:- This person could remember the year 1647 to be precise. This was a fun trip to explore Past Life Regression. Nonetheless, it made sense to the person's vocation in present life as defence officer, mainly involved in rescue operations.

So.. Do Past Lives Exist?

Given that all the stories above are true as felt by a human, what conclusions would you draw?

If it is true that past lives exist and we can access them. You can stop reading now and nothing more need to be said. But, what can be an alternate explanation for such experiences.

I would reckon, as perhaps some of you would, that it may be our mind that makes up these stories and experiences. Right? The next question then is, how does the mind come up with such elaborate stories? Can you truly come up with an elaborate story like that on a moment's notice? For most of us, that is not possible.

So what else might be happening?

In a stage when this experience is happening, the conscious mind is out of operation. That is, there is no filter of what is right or wrong, possible impossible, correct incorrect. Just like your dreams. Only, now you are also aware of the events. The words just flow out of your mouth without any conscious choice. But, the mind can only produce and build on what it knows already. Every thought is built up on what happened before. That would mean that the experience is being built by a person's deep rooted thought and behaviour patterns. They may come from personal experiences of this life or external influences like social media, books, stories, movies... Irrespective of the source, they have now become the bedrock of the person's way of being.

And that is what is their behaviour. That behaviour is usually seen by others but hidden to the person himself. The conscious mind, the ego puts it under wraps. In the state of Past Life Regression, one gets to see oneself without any filters. Raw. As other people see the person.

That becomes the tremendous opportunity for self growth and self healing. The first step to improvement is, acknowledging the problem. The Regression helps you do that. In the safety of a hypnotherapist, you can explore the deepest parts of you, with as much neutrality as possible and begin to sculpt a new you.

.. and that's why.. it does not matter if you believe it or not, whether you can access past life or not - no answer from someone else will ever satisfy you. Once you experience it yourself, you would begin to find answers.

.. and irrespective of the your belief, it works. 🤷‍♂️
